VOLUNTEER FOR F.E.M.M.E.S.

There are several ways volunteers can get involved in F.E.M.M.E.S.!

F.E.M.M.E.S. Explore (Fall and Winter)

Group Leader:

As a group leader, you will mentor a group of 10-15 girls for the entire day of the Explore Capstone. This includes taking the girls to their hands-on activities, eating lunch with them, answering their questions, and keeping them engaged throughout the event. Group Leaders will receive free breakfast, lunch, and a t-shirt!

Note: We ask that all group leaders are women, so that the participants can hear first-hand experiences from their Group Leaders about what it's like to be a women in STEM. If you're a man, please consider volunteering as an Activity Leader!

Activity Leader:

Activity leaders are responsible for designing and executing an activity for 4th-6th grade girls that allows them to explore a STEM principle in a hands-on manner. During the day of the Explore Capstone, leaders will execute 4 rotations of the activity, with the help of several volunteers. The F.E.M.M.E.S. Activity Committee will guide you in planning your activity, as well as organize logistics for the day of the event. Activity Leaders will receive free lunch and a t-shirt!

F.E.M.M.E.S. Connect (Winter)

Mentor:

As a mentor, you will interact with your middle school mentee while engaging in various STEM events, such as touring a museum or doing lab demos. This includes getting to know them, asking them scientific questions, and sharing your own experiences about being a woman+ in STEM. Middle school can be a tough time, so as a mentor, you can help validate their experiences and make them feel like they belong in STEM!

Activity Leader:

Activity leaders are responsible for designing and executing an event, which may include hands-on activities, that allows the girls to explore a STEM field (or multiple) for one Saturday. Activity leaders will have the entire block of the event (typically about 3 hours) to run their event. The F.E.M.M.E.S. Activity Committee will guide you in planning your activity, as well as organize logistics for the day of the event.
