F.E.M.M.E.S. Advance is our program tailored for high school students! Advance events aim to cultivate excitement about STEM, build leadership and communication skills, and give students the opportunity to explore STEM-related college and career options. Like other F.E.M.M.E.S. programs, Advance supports underrepresented groups in STEM, particularly women+.
As its largest event, F.E.M.M.E.S. Advance hosts a yearly Capstone, where participants actively engage with STEM material! Similar to our original 4th-6th grade Capstone, the Advance Capstone includes a Keynote speaker, a schedule of hands-on experiments, and supportive small-group settings to interact with peers and mentors. The Advance Capstone builds on our elementary program with activities that promote leadership capabilities, communication skills, DEI awareness, and college readiness. The next F.E.M.M.E.S. Advance Capstone is scheduled for March 2021, and it will be offered either virtually or in-person.
In addition to the spring Capstone, Advance will host a fall College Readiness Series for the first time this year! This series will show what it looks like to study STEM in college and provide support around 1) college applications and 2) pursuing careers in STEM. The three parts of the series - Opening College Panel, College Application Support, and Closing College Panel - will take place on October 8th, 15th, and 22nd, respectively. Registration for one, two, or all three parts of the series is here!
